Our partner, The University of Essex invites applications for the role of Senior Research Officer in Artificial Intelligence work on the EU/UKRI funded project ELOQUENCE (Multilingual and Cross-cultural interactions for context-aware, and bias-controlled dialogue systems for safety-critical applications).

Location: Colchester, with Hybrid/On-site options
Salary: £37,099 per annum
Hours: Full Time

Your responsibilities

will cover a wide range of tasks, including (but not limited to):

  • Developing multi-modal foundation models to integrate text, speech, and vision.
  • Conducting research in multi-lingual text and speech processing.
  • Exploring techniques for factual retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Incorporating human feedback through Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) techniques.
  • Examining the ethics dimension of AI in real-world use cases.

Skills and qualifications

  • A relevant doctoral level degree in NLP, machine learning or a related area.
  • Excellent demonstrable communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and positively, both independently and as part of a team
