Senior Research Officer Position at the University of Essex

If you are an experienced researcher specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Speech Processing, or Machine Learning we have great news for you. Our partner, The University of Essex invites applications for the role of Senior Research Officer in Artificial Intelligence work on the EU/UKRI funded project ELOQUENCE (Multilingual and Cross-cultural interactions for context-aware, and bias-controlled dialogue systems for safety-critical applications).

Job Overview: 

Location: Colchester, with Hybrid/On-site options
Salary: £37,099 per annum

Your responsibilities

will cover a wide range of tasks, including (but not limited to):

  • Developing multi-modal foundation models to integrate text, speech, and vision.
  • Conducting research in multi-lingual text and speech processing.
  • Exploring techniques for factual retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Incorporating human feedback through Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) techniques.
  • Examining the ethics dimension of AI in real-world use cases.

Skills and qualifications

  • A relevant doctoral level degree in NLP, machine learning or a related area.
  • Excellent demonstrable communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and positively, both independently and as part of a team
