ELOQUENCE Plenary Meeting in Novi Sad

On November 5th and 6th, 2024, the Faculty of Technical Science from the University of Novi Sad hosted the ELOQUENCE Plenary Meeting, bringing together a consortium made of experts and researchers from the fields of artificial intelligence, natural language processing (NLP), and information technology. This meeting aimed to discuss the latest developments in the ELOQUENCE project, which focuses on enhancing large language models (LLMs) and promoting ethical, legal, and societal assessments within AI frameworks, as well as pilot developments.

Setting the Stage

On the first day, the meeting was held at the Rectorate Building, where participants were welcomed with an introductory session that set the tone for the proceedings. Following this, the agenda unfolded with presentations from various work packages (WPs) designed to address specific aspects of the project.

Discussions included updates on key expected results, the status of deliverables, and compliance with ethical standards. Participants agreed that effective management is important for ensuring that we remain on track and that the project meets its objectives in developing responsible pilots.

Engaging with Real-World Applications

The meeting also showcased four pilots who demonstrated the practical applications of ELOQUENCE technologies. Presenters detailed how these pilots will address real-world challenges, such as privacy preservation in language models, bias detection in social contexts, and upgrading support call centres through AI-based supervision. These initiatives will not only illustrate the project’s relevance but also highlight the potential impact of innovative language technologies across various sectors.

Chance for Networking

Every healthy and successful consortium thrives due to the strong connections between its members, and live events—no matter how much technology we use for online meetings—are still the best way to introduce oneself, find common ground, and brainstorm.

The ELOQUENCE Plenary Meeting in Novi Sad was a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to advance AI and NLP technologies. As the world continues to navigate the complexities of technology and communication, projects like ELOQUENCE will strive to develop innovative solutions that enhance human-computer interaction, promote ethical standards in AI deployment, and empower diverse communities to leverage language technologies for improved accessibility and understanding.
